Larnaca: The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and FLANQ, a maritime defence solutions provider based in Germany, have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and deploy uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) aimed at strengthening maritime security and defence operations across the Mediterranean.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the collaboration will focus on improving operational readiness in contested waters using advanced autonomous technologies. The two entities will work together on solutions that combine FLANQ’s autonomous surface platforms with CMMI’s expertise in maritime research to enhance mission capabilities in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) protection, environmental monitoring, and precision strike.
Central to this partnership is the goal of transitioning autonomous surface vessel concepts into operational reality, addressing the specific challenges of the Mediterranean region. Through collaborative research, trials, and system integration, FLANQ and CMMI aim to innovate and provide persistent, scalable, and adaptable maritime security solutions, as detailed in the press release.
