Cloudy Skies and Showers Predicted for Cyprus Coastal Waters

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, predicting mainly cloudy weather accompanied by local showers and isolated thunderstorms over the period from noon on January 27, 2026, to noon the following day. Increased dust concentrations are also expected in the atmosphere, potentially impacting visibility, which is expected to be good overall, but moderate to poor during showers.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the forecast outlines varying wind conditions and sea states across different coastal areas. For the west coast, winds will shift from a south to southwest direction in the afternoon, reaching a Beaufort scale of 5, occasionally peaking at 6, with sea conditions remaining moderate. Overnight, the winds will ease to 4 to 5, later dropping to 3 to 4, while maintaining a moderate sea state. By morning, winds will shift from southeast to southwest, increasing to 4 to 5, resulting in moderate to rough sea conditions.

On the south coast, afternoon winds will register at 5 on the Beaufort scale, occasionally reaching 5 to 6, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate. Overnight, winds will decrease to 4 to 5 before shifting from northwest to northeast at 3 to 4, resulting in slight to moderate seas. In the morning, a gradual change to a south to southwest direction with winds at 4 to 5 will bring moderate sea conditions.

The east coast will experience south to southwest winds reaching 4 to 5 in the afternoon, with local areas peaking at 5, resulting in slight to moderate seas. Overnight, winds will transition from southwest to northwest at 3 to 4, leading to slight seas. By morning, the winds will gradually shift from southwest to northwest, then to southeast to southwest, maintaining slight sea conditions.

For the north coast, afternoon winds from the south to southwest will reach 5 to 6, with moderate sea conditions. Overnight, winds will ease from southeast to southwest at 4 to 5, gradually decreasing near the coast to 3 to 4, resulting in slightly moderate seas. By morning, winds will increase from southeast to southwest at 3 to 4, soon reaching 4 to 5, with moderate to rough sea conditions expected.
