Nicosia: The value of bounced cheques issued in May 2025 increased to £62,164, compared to the previous month and to May last year, according to data published on Monday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).
According to Cyprus News Agency, in relation to the registrations of persons in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of bounced cheques, in May 2025, 18 bounced cheques were issued, with a total value of £62,164. This is in contrast to April 2025, which saw 23 bounced cheques worth only £22,860, and May 2024, which recorded 23 bounced cheques valued at £36,910.
The total number of legal entities and natural persons registered in the preliminary list of the CIR in May 2025 amounted to 14, comprising 9 legal entities and 5 natural persons.
During the period from January to May 2025, CBC data indicates that 102 bounced cheques were registered in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry, with a total value of £241,588. This is compared to 131 cheques in the same period last year, which had a total value of £289,898.
The bounced cheques from January to May 2025 involved a total of 56 persons, including 34 legal entities and 22 natural persons.
Furthermore, according to CBC data, the number of persons registered in the CIR amounted to 8 in May 2025, of which 3 concern legal entities and 5 natural persons controlling legal entities. No natural person was registered in the CIR in May.
During the period from January to May 2025, a total of 46 persons were registered in the CIR, with 18 being legal entities, 7 natural persons, and 21 natural persons controlling legal entities. In the corresponding period last year, a total of 101 persons were registered in the CIR.
