Agriculture Minister to Participate in EU Environment Ministers’ Council in Luxembourg

Luxembourg: The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, is set to travel to Luxembourg to participate in the Council of Environment Ministers of the European Union, scheduled to take place on Tuesday under the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture announced in a press release that the council will focus on reaching a general approach regarding the new European Regulation on circularity requirements in vehicle design and end-of-life vehicle management. The goal is to reduce waste and enhance the circular economy.

The press release also highlights that a significant portion of the discussion will center around ‘The EU at COP30 – evaluation and the day after,’ in preparation for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference. Additionally, the results of the Tripartite Conference of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions on the safe management of waste and toxic chemicals will be presented, addressing the protection of the environment and public health.

Denmark is also set to present its priorities and work programme for its forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU during the meeting. A working lunch will follow, where ministers will discuss environmental aspects and progress in the EU’s strategic dialogue with industry.

The press release notes that Minister Panayiotou will actively participate in discussions, emphasizing Cyprus’ national positions on circular economy, climate change adaptation, water resilience, and maritime policy. She is expected to return to Cyprus on Wednesday morning.
