3D Mapping Show Illuminates Thang Long’s Imperial History

Hanoi: The large-scale 3D mapping performance "Imperial Capital of Thang Long" has been launched at a digital experience space at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel world heritage site. The program, orchestrated by the Thang Long - H  N?i Heritage Conservation Centre, aims to elevate the heritage destination's quality while providing the public with a unique and engaging way to explore the millennium-old cultural legacy.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the performance, themed Echoes of the L½ Dynasty, revives the prosperous era of the L½ Dynasty (1009-1225), which established Thang Long as the nation's political and cultural hub. By merging modern projection art with heritage architecture, the show bridges the past and present, inspiring pride in national cultural identity and the pioneering spirit of the L½ era. A standout feature is the large-scale 3D mapping projection on oan M´n (Main Gate), which transports audiences back to the year 1009, vividly recreating historical moments through imagery, sound, lighting, and the authentic heritage setting.

Complementing the performance, a multi-sensory immersive digital experience space has been crafted as a digital heritage ecosystem within the Imperial Citadel. Utilizing technologies like 3D mapping, holograms, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and interactive devices, the space vividly showcases the cultural environment, royal treasures, and court life of the L½ Dynasty. Themed zones allow visitors to explore history through multiple senses, directly interact with digital content, learn about L½ kings, architectural works, and artefacts, and engage in creative heritage-related activities, with a particular focus on engaging younger audiences.

The debut of "Imperial Capital of Thang Long" and the digital experience space signifies a new direction in heritage conservation and promotion. By adopting digital technologies, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel reaffirms its role as a creative cultural space, contributing to H  N?i's vision of sustainably developing cultural industries as part of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network.

In conjunction with the 3D mapping show, an art exhibition titled A Millennium of Education has opened at Van Mi?u - Qu?c T? Gi¡m (Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy) to commemorate the 955th founding anniversary of the Temple of Literature (1070-2025) and the 950th anniversary of the Imperial Academy (1076-2026), while also welcoming the New Year 2026. Running until March 22, the exhibition celebrates Vietnam's tradition of valuing education and respect for teachers, reinforcing the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy as a symbol of intellect, ethics, and the venerable cultural traditions of Thang Long - H  N?i.

The exhibition is organized around three main themes: historical learning traditions, millennium-old Thang Long festivals, and the fusion of these traditions with festivals, resulting in ideologically rich and artistically expressive works. The artworks portray learning, examinations, academic success, the teacher-student relationship, and the journey of self-cultivation and national service by talented scholars, while also reflecting the capital's rich spiritual life through traditional festivals.

A diverse array of materials, including light, wood, silk, metal, poonah paper, and ceramics, are combined with contemporary installation and sculptural techniques, providing the public with an emotionally engaging and interactive visual experience.
