Nicosia: The total registrations of vehicles in Cyprus experienced a slight increase of 0.8% during the first eight months of 2025, reaching 34,668 compared to 34,391 in the same period in 2024.
According to Cyprus News Agency, passenger saloon cars saw a minimal rise to 26,961 from 26,902 in 2024, marking a 0.2% increase. Of these, 10,373 (38.5%) were new cars, while 16,588 (61.5%) were used. Notably, rental cars recorded a significant jump of 27.2%, totaling 4,044 units.
The composition of the vehicle market shifted slightly, with petrol-powered passenger cars declining to 43.2% from 50.1% in 2024. Diesel-powered cars also decreased to 8.5% from 9.9%. However, there was a rise in electric cars from 3.3% to 4.8% and hybrid cars from 36.8% to 43.6%.
The registration of coaches and buses decreased to 101 from 110 in the same timeframe. Goods conveyance vehicles saw a 2% increase to 3,935, up from 3,858 in 2024. Within this category, rental vehicles rose by 10% to 187, and light goods vehicles increased by 2.6% to 3,152. Conversely, road tractors decreased by 9.2% to 138, and heavy goods vehicles dropped by 1.1% to 458.
Mopeds under 50cc experienced a significant drop, registering only 155 compared to 535 in the previous year. In contrast, motorcycles over 50cc saw a substantial rise of 22.2% to 3,094, from 2,532 in 2024.
In August 2025 alone, vehicle registrations were 3,468, showing a 1.7% decrease from 3,527 in August 2024. However, registrations of passenger saloon cars increased by 1% to 2,803, up from 2,776 in August 2024.
