Nicosia: Omonia and Pafos secured places in the League Phase of UEFA competitions after winning their respective play-off ties, strengthening Cyprus' position in the UEFA country ranking. According to Cyprus News Agency, Omonia managed to beat Sint-Truiden 4-2 in Nicosia and overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat, securing a place in the League Phase of the Europa League. Diony was the star of the night, scoring a hat-trick, while Panagiotou added Omonia's fourth goal. Pafos defeated Dinamo City 4-2 after extra time to advance to the League Phase of the Conference League. The Cypriot side had drawn 1-1 in Albania and had to overcome a dramatic second leg before Ngamaleu and Anderson scored in extra time to secure the qualification of their team. The two victories provided a valuable boost to Cyprus' UEFA ranking. Cyprus added 500 points to its tally, taking its total to 34.193 points, while Switzerland, which remains in 16th place, has 30.200 points. The 3.993-point advantage gives Cyprus an important lead in th e battle for 15th place. Both Cyprus and Switzerland will have two representatives in the League Phase. Omonia in the Europa League and Pafos in the Conference League will have the opportunity to add further points to Cyprus' UEFA ranking.
