Nicosia: Strong winds, a drop in temperatures, snowfall, rain, and storms are affecting Cyprus since Friday morning, with a yellow warning in place until 22:00 (local time) this evening. A slight increase in temperature is expected on Saturday, while Sunday forecasts predict rain, isolated storms, and snow in the mountains. Fresh weather conditions are anticipated to affect the island on Monday and Tuesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Meteorology Department official Andreas Chrysanthou reported that strong winds have primarily impacted Paphos. Winds measuring 6-7 Beaufort, with gusts reaching up to 8 Beaufort, are expected throughout the island. In addition to strong winds, rains and isolated storms are forecasted to affect the region in the coming hours. The Troodos mountains have already experienced snowfall, with temperatures today ranging between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius. Chrysanthou also indicated that hail is likely in storm-affected areas.
Police have announced that due to snowfall and dense fog in the Troodos area, all roads in the vicinity are slippery and hazardous, accessible only to 4X4 vehicles. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, maintain a low speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and ensure their headlights are on.
Paphos is preparing for extreme weather conditions, according to Paphos District Government Organization Head Charalambos Pittokopitis. Pittokopitis stated that specific areas are under constant surveillance for potential flooding, with all services on high alert in close cooperation with local authorities, ready to respond to any unforeseen weather events.
