Industrial Production Index Sees 3.7% Increase in January

Nicosia: In January 2026, the Industrial Production Index reached 109.5 units, marking an increase of 3.7% compared to January 2025, according to data published on Monday by the Cyprus Statistical Service. The manufacturing sector reported an increase of 1.5% compared to the same month last year. Additionally, significant gains were seen in the electricity supply sector at 18.6% and the water supply and materials recovery sector at 6%.

According to Cyprus News Agency, while there were gains in various sectors, mining and quarrying experienced a downturn, showing a negative change of 16.1%. Within the manufacturing sector, the most notable positive changes were in the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture, which increased by 4.9%. The manufacturing of refined petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products, and pharmaceutical products and preparations also saw a rise of 3.2%. Similarly, the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products grew by 3.2%, and the manufacturing of food products, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 1.9%.

The report also highlighted areas of decline within the manufacturing sector. The manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing decreased by 2%, while the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products saw a marginal decline of 0.9%.
