Nicosia: Hospital beds in Cyprus stood at 329 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2024, according to Eurostat data published on Monday. As regards long-term care beds in nursing homes and other residential long-term care facilities, Cyprus recorded 350 beds per 100,000 inhabitants.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the number of hospital beds in the EU has been on a downward trend since 2009, when there were 582 hospital beds per 100,000 inhabitants. At European Union level, the ratio stood at 507 hospital beds per 100,000 inhabitants, marking a slight decrease compared with 2023, when 511 beds per 100,000 inhabitants were recorded.
For long-term care beds, at EU level, the highest rates were recorded in the Netherlands, with 1,390 long-term care beds per 100,000 inhabitants, Sweden with 1,298, and Belgium with 1,249.
