Bogdan zabelinskiy won the first medal for cyprus at the mediterranean games 'taranto 26' in the individual time trial in cycling:14.14.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in the same event Andreas Miltiades finished 12th with a time of 21:47.44, whilst the gold medal went to Tiago Gomes Antunes from Portugal with 20:05.95, with his compatriot Rafael Ferreira Reis, who won the bronze medal, finishing just 50 hundredths of a second behind Zabelinskiy.
In the corresponding women's event, highly experienced Andri Christoforou, a three-time Olympian, finished in 11th place with a time of 25:12.55 out of a total of 17 competitors.
In swimming, Kalia Antoniou came close to a medal but ultimately finished fourth in the 50m butterfly. Having qualified for the final with a time of 26.78, she clocked 26.41 in the evening race-setting a personal best-but was unable to make it onto the podium, comprised of Anna Doudounaki, who secured gold for Greece (26.11), alongside Scotto di Carlo from Italy (26.29) and Farida Osman from Egypt (26.32).
The Cypriot delegation continues its competitive programme at 'Taranto 26' on Sunday with 15 athletes competing in seven sports and the national handball team making its debut at the Mediterranean Games.
