EP President to hold talks with President Anastasiades and House President Demetriou during official visit to Nicosia on Friday

European Parliament President, Roberta Metsola, will pay on Friday, September 9, an official visit to Cyprus, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades.

Metsola will hold, among others, talks with President Anastasiades and House President, Annita Demetriou, and will address the House plenary.

She will also hold a meeting with the head of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, and will visit Dherynia, where she will meet with the Mayor and the members of the Municipal Council of the occupied town of Famagusta.

According to a press release issued by the Presidency, at 9.00am (local time) on September 9, Metsola will arrive at the Presidential Palace, where an official welcoming ceremony will take place.

Later on, President Anastasiades and Metsola will have a private meeting to be followed by expanded talks between delegations of the two sides.

After the talks, President Anastasiades and Metsola will make statements to the media.

At 11.00, Metsola will visit the House of Representatives, where she will meet with the House President, Annita Demetriou. Later on, Demetriou and Metsola will make statements to the media.

At 11.45 the President of the European Parliament will address the House plenary, which will hold an extraordinary meeting, in the presence of President Anastasiades and House President Demetriou.

At 12.20, Metsola will have a meeting with the head of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, at Ledra Palace, in the UN buffer zone. At 13.00 she will attend a lunch hosted in her honour by the House President.

At 16.00, Metsola will have a meeting with the Mayor and the member of the Municipal Council of Famagusta, in Dherynia.

At 18.00, Metsola and the House President will visit the University of Cyprus Library, where they will hold a public debate with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot students and members of youth organizations.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
