Entry free of charge to all monuments for International Monuments and Sites Day


Events and free of charge entry to all archaeological sites and monuments were announced on Wednesday by the Department of Antiquities on the occasion of the International Day of Monuments and Sites on April 18, established by UNESCO in 1983 following a proposal by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

According to an announcement by the Department of Antiquities, within the general guidelines of the International ICOMOS, the Department of Antiquities celebrates this year’s day under the theme “Rescuing Monuments from Collapses and Disasters. Charter of Venice 1964-2024”.

As noted, the main event of the Department of Antiquities will be the inauguration of the archaeological site of the Paphos Gate, celebrated by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, on April 22.

Other planned events mainly concern educational actions in monuments and sites, aiming mainly to familiarize young people with cultural heritage.

A musical event will also take place in Palaipafos, in Paphos
district, on May 11.

Finally, the Department of Antiquities will also co-organize an event on Friday 19 April at its premises, with the Cypriot Department of ICOMOS.
