Cyprus President conveys support for Iraq’s territorial integrity to newly elected President Abdul Latif Rashid

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, called to congratulate the newly elected President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid on his election, as he posted on Twitter.

 

The President noted that Iraq’s stability is of prime importance for he entire region, while underscoring the full support of Cyprus to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.

House President and Defence Minister discuss Turkey and geopolitical developments

President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou received on Friday Minister of Defence Charalambos Petrides, with whom she discussed Turkey’s stance and current geopolitical developments.

 

A press release by the Parliament says that during the meeting they discussed about the current geo-political developments and Turkey’s provocative stance against Cyprus through the tactic of violating its air space. He also briefed her on other matters that lie within the responsibilities of the Ministry.

 

In addition, Petrides talked about the Ministry’s priorities and expressed content for the excellent cooperation and coordination of actions between the Ministry and the Parliament.

Cyprus Ambassador to Austria informs President Van der Bellen about Turkey’s revisionism

The new Ambassador of Cyprus to Austria, Maria Michael, presented her credentials to the country’s Federal President, Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, and informed him about Turkey’s revisionist approach Nicosia is facing in the region.

 

The ceremony took place on Thursday at the Hofburg Palace, in Vienna, with the Ambassador conveying to the Austrian President the warm regards on behalf of President Anastasiades, while assuring that she will work towards strengthening the already excellent relations between the two countries.

 

An official announcement says that the Ambassador also briefed Van der Bellen on the latest challenges Cyprus is facing due to Turkey’s revisionist policy.

 

Michael thanked the Austrian President for his country’s consistent support to Cyprus’ efforts for a settlement. President Van der Bellen wished her every success expressed his country’s readiness to further deepen bilateral relations.

 

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
