Cyprus Ambassador to Austria informs President Van der Bellen about Turkey’s revisionism

The new Ambassador of Cyprus to Austria, Maria Michael, presented her credentials to the country’s Federal President, Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, and informed him about Turkey’s revisionist approach Nicosia is facing in the region.

 

The ceremony took place on Thursday at the Hofburg Palace, in Vienna, with the Ambassador conveying to the Austrian President the warm regards on behalf of President Anastasiades, while assuring that she will work towards strengthening the already excellent relations between the two countries.

 

An official announcement says that the Ambassador also briefed Van der Bellen on the latest challenges Cyprus is facing due to Turkey’s revisionist policy.

 

Michael thanked the Austrian President for his country’s consistent support to Cyprus’ efforts for a settlement. President Van der Bellen wished her every success expressed his country’s readiness to further deepen bilateral relations.

 

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
