According to Cyprus News Agency, the University of Cyprus stands out internationally, with its highest ranking in Automation and Control, where it is placed between 101-150 globally. The subjects of Education, Psychology, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering all share a global ranking in the 201-300 range. Management and Telecommunication Engineering are both ranked 301-400, while Environmental Science and Engineering, along with Physics, are positioned within the 401-500 bracket.
This recognition aligns with the University’s overall placement in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2025, where it is listed in the 801-900 band, maintaining its status as the only university from Cyprus to be included. This dual presence in both overall and subject-specific Shanghai rankings underscores the University’s strategic international position and its commitment to excellence in research and education.
The University of Cyprus attributes its success to sustained investments in research excellence, high-quality teaching, and international cooperation. As Cyprus’s first public university, it continues to expand its global footprint by supporting leading researchers and offering students contemporary academic programs that emphasize research and societal impact.
Professor Tasos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus, emphasizes that international rankings serve as a crucial communication tool to demonstrate the University’s academic achievements. He notes that the true measure of the University’s quality comes from the societal relevance of its research and the contributions of its students and graduates.
The GRAS ranking evaluates universities based on indicators such as publication volume and quality, presence of world-class researchers, and international collaboration. These factors contribute to a weighted overall score, determining each institution’s final rank. The 2025 results further affirm the University of Cyprus’s prominent role in the global academic community.
