Trade Deficit for Jan-Feb 2026 Records Annual Increase

Nicosia: Cyprus' trade deficit in January-February 2026 was pound 1,341.8 mn compared to pound 1,267.7 mn in the corresponding period of 2025.

According to Cyprus News Agency, total exports of goods in January-February 2026 were pound 766.2 mn compared to pound 939.9 mn in January-February 2025, registering a decrease of 18.5%. Total imports of goods in January-February 2026 amounted to pound 2,108.0 mn as compared to pound 2,207.6 mn in January-February 2025, recording a decrease of 4.5%.

Provisional data for February 2026 indicate that total imports of goods were pound 1,115.4 mn as compared to pound 1,056.4 mn in February 2025, recording an increase of 5.6%. Imports from other EU member states were pound 675.0 mn and from third countries pound 440.4 mn, compared to pound 582.7 mn and pound 473.7 mn respectively in February 2025. The imports in February 2026 also included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels and aircraft, with a total value of pound 182.4 mn as compared to pound 8.5 mn in February 2025.

Total exports of goods in February 2026 were pound 244.3 mn as compared to pound 496.2 mn in February 2025, recording a decrease of 50.8%. Exports to other EU member states were pound 93.2 mn and to third countries pound 151.1 mn, compared to pound 126.6 mn and pound 369.6 mn respectively in February 2025. The exports in February 2026 included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with a total value of pound 10.5 mn as compared to pound 97.0 mn in February 2025.

Final data for January 2026 showed that the total imports of goods amounted to pound 992.6 mn, compared to pound 1,151.2 mn in January 2025, recording a decrease of 13.8%. Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were pound 257.0 mn in January 2026 compared to pound 368.4 mn in January 2025, recording a decrease of 30.2%. Domestic exports of industrial products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were pound 244.9 mn in January 2026 compared to pound 356.2 mn in January 2025. Domestic exports of agricultural products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were pound 10.5 mn in January 2026 compared to pound 11.1 mn in January 2025.

Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were pound 264.9 mn in January 2026 as compared to pound 75.3 mn in January 2025, recording an increase of 251.8%. The main categories of exports of domestically produced goods for January 2026, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were mineral fuels and oils with a value of pound 144.9 mn, pharmaceutical products with pound 39.2 mn, and halloumi cheese with pound 24.4 mn.
