The P5 are trying to help the UNSG on the UN special envoy on Cyprus issue, Russian Ambrassador says

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cyprus, Stanislav Osadchiy, has said that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council are discussing the issue of the appointment of a UN special envoy on Cyprus, and are trying to help the UN Secretary – General solve this issue the soonest possible, because negotiations need to continue.

In statements to the media and replying to questions by journalists, on the sidelines of the inauguration of a sculpture in Ayia Napa, Osadchiy said that the system of guarantees in Cyprus is obsolete and that the Security Council needs to guarantee the settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Asked about Russia`s position on the issue of the special envoy, Osadchiy said that “we are in favour of the continuation of the mission of the special representative in Cyprus.
