President Christodoulides Allocates Diplomatic Pension to Support Elderly Care Institutions Across Cyprus

Nicosia: President Nikos Christodoulides will allocate his monthly compensation for his 18 years of public service as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to six residential homes or elderly care centres across Cyprus for the next 12 months.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Presidency of the Republic announced in a press release that following the passing, signing, and publication of the legislation allowing officials to waive their pension, President Christodoulides personally contacted the chairmen of six Community Volunteering Councils throughout Cyprus, primarily in rural areas, to inform them of his decision. These councils implement elderly care programmes.

The press release stated that although President Christodoulides does not typically publicise charitable acts, which he believes should remain private, he chose to announce this initiative due to its relevance to public discourse. The President emphasized that such charitable actions have always been a part of his personal and family activities and will continue to be so.

The statement further detailed that for each year from September to September, while he holds the presidential office, President Christodoulides will support different institutions with his monthly compensation of 730 euros. The contributions for the first year are dedicated to the memory of his parents, Katerina and Phoebus Christodoulides, with the aim of enhancing the daily lives of elderly citizens across Cyprus.
