The number of building permits issued by the municipal authorities and the district administration offices during January 2022 increased by 8.3%, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year according to data released Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. The total number stood at 535.
The total value of these permits increased by 3.4% and the total area by 10.1%. The number of dwelling units recorded a decrease of 8.8%. The total value of these permits reached €165,5 million and the total area 158,0 thousand square meters. These building permits provide for the construction of 640 dwelling units.
Building permits constitute a leading indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
