MTF-UNIFIL Commander visits JRCC Larnaca

The Commander of the Maritime Task Force of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (MTF-UNIFIL), Rear Admiral Dirk Gärtner, visited the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Larnaca where he acknowledged its level of organisation and readiness, the Centre said on Thursday. In a post on its social media, the JRCC notes that on Tuesday, it was visited by the UNIFIL-MTF Commander who was briefed by the Commander and Staff of the Center about the organisation and operation of the Search and Rescue System of the Republic of Cyprus. During the meeting, it said, the further strengthening of the existing cooperation between the Center and the UNIFIL-MTF was discussed, as well as the role the Center may undertake during humanitarian operations in the wider eastern Mediterranean, such as non-combatant evacuation operations from crisis areas, and issues regarding the increased flows of refugees and migrants from the coasts of Lebanon and Syria towards the Republic of Cyprus. The UNIFIL-MTF Commander acknowledged the level of organisation and readiness of the Center and expressed his intention for continued upgrading of the cooperation between the JRCC and UNIFIL-MTF, for the common goal of security and stability in the eastern Mediterranean region, the post concludes.
