Milk and Halloumi Exports Continue Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Concerns, President Assures

Nicosia: Exports of manufactured products, particularly milk and halloumi cheese, which is an important export product of the Republic of Cyprus, are continuing as normal, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday, adding that the government will stand by all those affected by foot-and-mouth disease.

According to Cyprus News Agency, in statements made on his way to a meeting in Nicosia with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhrman, the President addressed how the government plans to handle the issue. He highlighted that, from the very beginning in December, when the problem emerged in the island's Turkish-occupied areas, specific measures were undertaken by the Veterinary Services.

The President mentioned that initial information suggested the possibility of illegal activities leading to the current challenging situation. He reassured, "As a government, we will stand by all those affected in every way. I want to make that clear. We will stand by the side of all those affected."

Despite the situation, President Christodoulides emphasized that exports of manufactured products, particularly milk and halloumi cheese, continue without interruption or restrictions, underscoring the resilience of these sectors amid the crisis.
