Marking fourty seven years since the Turkish army’s seizure of Varosha

As the sun was setting on the 15 August 1974, it felt as if time had stopped in Varosha. The Turkish army had invaded Famagusta and the once thriving luxury resort and commercial centre of Varosha, with its lavish hotels, built on golden sandy shores, visited even by Hollywood’s most popular stars at the time, now stood deserted.

Varosha was looted, sealed with barbed wire and put under the control of the Turkish army.
