House President calls for human rights & fundamental freedoms to be secured through a Cyprus solution

Our aim remains to secure human rights and fundamental freedoms through a bicommunal, bizonal federation on the basis of UN resolutions which will be compatible with the principles and values of the EU, pledged House President Annita Demetriou.

In a speech at the memorial service of the heroes of the 3rd company of the 211 Infantry Battalion during the 1974 Turkish invasion, held at the church of Agia Varvara in Nicosia she said the northern suburbs of the capital which were under the responsibility of the specific battalion were attacked by the Turkish forces and were one of the first battalions to defend the sovereign integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.
