The House Plenary voted Thursday for the foundation of a Deputy Ministry of Culture.
A total of 34 MPs supported the bill and 13 MPs of AKEL abstained. Regarding the Department of Antiquities, the Plenary decided that it will be transferred to the Deputy Ministry of Culture , a year after its full operation.
The transfer of the Department of Antiquities, which is now under the Ministry of Transport, to the Deputy Ministry of Culture, as well as its association with issues related to the Cyprus problem, did spark a controversy between the MPs, as some of them debated that the Department should remain under a Ministry that is under the umberall of the Central Government.
The Deputy Ministry is set to start operating July 2022.
