High dust concentrations in the atmosphere on Thursday

High dust concentrations are observed today, Thursday, in the atmosphere, according to the measurements of the ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection.

A relevant statement said that because the dust contains small inhalable particles that are likely to have a negative effect on human health, the public, especially vulnerable groups (children, the elderly and the sick) are advised to avoid going outdoors until the effect has passed.

Employers should take appropriate organisational and/or technical measures after assessing the risks for their employees in open spaces. Workers in such areas are recommended to use appropriate personal protective equipment.

The hourly dust concentration values measured at 7.00 am local time (4.00 am GMT) in the following areas were in Nicosia 69,1 μg/m3, in Limassol 58,9 μg/m3, in Larnaca 67,9 μg/m3, in Paralimni 48,8 μg/m3, in Paphos 91,9 μg/m3 and in Agia Marina Xyliatou 51,7 μg/m3.
