Health Minister discussed with Italian counterpart ways of cooperation in the health sector

The exploration of common ground for cooperation in the health sector, with particular emphasis on monitoring and controlling infectious diseases, was discussed by the Minister of Health, Michael Hadjipantela, and his Italian counterpart, Roberto Speranza, on Friday in Rome.

According to the Ministry of Health, issues discussed at the meeting included the collection, analysis and dissemination of data, the investigation of case clusters and the epidemiological investigation of newly emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases. Training in epidemiology and public health education in general in relation to infectious diseases was also discussed.

In this context, the considerable experience of the Italian authorities in epidemiological monitoring and control of infectious diseases was assessed and the possibility of cooperation in the design of strategic plans to address them was explored.

Finally, it was decided that the competent services of the two Ministries will start cooperation in order to formulate the Memorandum of Understanding, which will be signed at a later stage.
