European Film Festival to open on June 7 in Nicosia

opens on June 7th, in Nicosia. Sixteen films from across Europe and Ukraine, among which a film from Cyprus, will be screened during the festival.

According to a press release by the French Institute of Cyprus, the Cypriot participation is the film ‘Siege on Liperti Street’, directed by Stavros Pamballis. Set beside the UN Buffer Zone that divides the city of Nicosia, the film tells the story of one family’s struggle to hold on to their home, no matter the price.

It is noted that the festival is organised within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2022 (PFUE) and of the EUNIC network by the French Embassy and the French Institute of Cyprus, in collaboration with fifteen member states of the European Union and Ukraine, the Municipality of Nicosia, the Friends of Cinema Society Cyprus, the Cultural Services of Ministry of Education and Culture and the support of Société Générale – Cyprus.

The festival will take place from Tuesday, June 7th to Friday, July 1st, date on which the Czech Republic will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

All screenings will be held at the Municipal Amphitheater, Eleftheria Square, in Nicosia. All films will be screened at 9:00 pm in their original version with English subtitles. Entrance is free, the press release concludes.
