EU Most Wanted campaign for 2022 leads to solving of 14 cases, Cyprus police announce

Fourteen cases related to the most dangerous wanted persons were resolved from September 2022 to January 2023, by the European Network of Active Search Teams for Wanted Persons ENFAST, with the support of Europol, in the framework of the 2022 EU Most Wanted campaign, the Cyprus Police announced Wednesday.

Cyprus police say that the publication of the profiles of the wanted persons on the EU Most Wanted website, during the campaign, played a decisive role in solving five cases.

Their uncovering, according to the Police, could not have been possible without both the expertise of the ENFAST network and Europol’s communication campaign, since the two organizations completed each other in their efforts to identify the most dangerous wanted persons.

The website was launched in 2016 and since then the profiles of 392 wanted persons have been posted. Of this number, 136 wanted persons have been arrested.

The Police said that this year’s campaign focused on highlighting the profiles of wanted persons across Europe, who are members of criminal organizations and are wanted in connection with serious crimes in Europe, such as murder, human trafficking and armed robberies.

The campaign was launched on social media, including a call to action, in all EU languages, to reach the widest possible audience and to raise awareness.

According to the Cyprus Police, Cyprus contributed in collecting and exchanging information to identify the most dangerous wanted persons in Europe and participates in the European ENFAST Network as well as in the annual EU Most Wanted campaigns carried out by the Network, in collaboration with Europol.

Among the wanted persons included in the annual campaigns, as well as the permanent EU Most Wanted website, are also suspects wanted by the Cyprus authorities.
