Brussels: The European Commission has announced significant progress in enhancing the reliability of online reviews for tourism accommodations. In a collaborative effort, various stakeholders within the EU tourism ecosystem have endorsed the new ‘Code of Conduct for Online Ratings and Reviews for Tourism Accommodation’. This initiative aims to improve transparency and ensure that only genuine guests who have stayed at a location can leave reviews. This move is expected to help tourists make more informed decisions when booking accommodations.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Code of Conduct was initiated by the EU and co-created by accommodation providers and online platforms. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, emphasized the importance of reliable online reviews for building trust in the tourism sector. He highlighted the Code’s potential to provide clearer and more trustworthy information for travelers, benefiting both tourists and accommodation providers. This initiative marks a step towards a more resilient tourism sector in Europe.
In addition to this, the European Commission is set to examine a new European citizens’ initiative titled ‘My Voice, My Choice: For Safe And Accessible Abortion’. This initiative, which has garnered over 1.1 million valid statements of support, calls for EU financial support to ensure safe and accessible abortion services across Member States. The Commission has confirmed its competence to address this initiative, provided it respects national health policy responsibilities. The Commission is expected to meet with the initiative’s organizers and will present its official response by March 2026.
Furthermore, the European Heritage Days 2025 are set to open thousands of cultural sites across Europe, focusing on architecture as a reflection of societal changes and sustainability. The event draws over 20 million visitors annually and includes guided tours, workshops, and exhibitions. The European Heritage Awards Ceremony will honor achievements in heritage conservation with 30 winners from 24 countries announced in Brussels.
Lastly, Commissioner Hadja Lahbib is in Slovenia for the Bled Strategic Forum, discussing humanitarian crises and EU preparedness. Meanwhile, Commissioner Christophe Hansen is visiting Moldova to support the country’s EU integration and strengthen ties with its agricultural sector.
