Digital labour card valuable tool for undeclared work, says President Anastasiades

Digital labour card is a valuable tool for undeclared work and for employees’ benefits President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday, welcoming at the Presidential Palace the Greek Minister for Labour and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis.

Hatzidakis and his Cypriot counterpart Kyriacos Koushos earlier signed an agreement for the implementation of ERGANI II in Cyprus, which includes the digital labour card. ERGANI II is an information system through which the employers, among other things, register their employees.

Welcoming the Greek Minister, the President expressed his gratitude for the agreement, saying that this system is related to labour and payroll issues and employees’ benefits and will combat undeclared labour adding that this is nothing more than the extension of close cooperation between the two governments.

Hatzidakis said that the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenic Republic are always cooperating closely adding that this is the time to offer back to Cyprus for its generous donation during the catastrophic fires in Mati area a few years back.

He said that through the digital card it is guaranteed that the working hours of employees are respected, any overtime will be recorded and fair competition among companies is also provided. The Greek Minister said that this system was well received in Greece and he hoped for good results in Cyprus too.

In statements to the press after the meeting the Greek Minister praised the agreement signed between the two sides adding that the digital card is a measure that harnesses technology for the benefit of social justice.

He said that a team from the Greek Ministry is already in Cyprus cooperating with the authorities to implement the agreement and introduce the new system.

Cyprus’ Labour Minister Kyriacos Koushos warmly thanked Hatzidakis for his cooperation, response and assistance. He said that bilateral cooperation is a given at all levels and expressed hope that we will soon have the results of the agreement for the implementation of ERGANI II in Cyprus.
