Nicosia: Pafos has been declared an international center of operatic art by Deputy Minister of Culture, Vassiliki Kassianidou. This announcement was made during her address on behalf of the President of the Republic at the performance of the opera Carmen as part of the Pafos Aphrodite Festival 2025, held at the Medieval Castle of Pafos.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kassianidou highlighted the significance of the chosen opera and its meticulously prepared production as evidence of the Pafos Aphrodite Festival’s dedication to delivering artistically flawless and aesthetically high-quality performances. These performances attract audiences from around the world, eager to partake in this major cultural event.
Kassianidou further emphasized the Deputy Ministry of Culture’s support for the Pafos Aphrodite Festival, recognizing the local authority as an invaluable partner. Together, they work towards the development and promotion of contemporary culture, enriching the cultural offerings of the region.
The Deputy Minister also revealed that the Deputy Ministry of Culture is an institutional sponsor of the Festival, providing a grant of £150,000. She noted that this state sponsorship is a component of the government’s broader strategic plan for Contemporary Culture. This plan aims to foster the creative industries, upgrade infrastructure, offer grants through competitive schemes, and advance cultural education.
In her address, Kassianidou extended her gratitude and congratulations to the Mayor of Paphos, the Board of Directors of the Pafos Aphrodite Festival, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and artists involved in the performance. She stressed that their efforts transform Paphos into an international center of operatic art every September.
