The anniversary of April 1st, the beginning of the EOKA liberation struggle for the island to gain independence against the British Colony, is celebrated Friday, with parades and wreath-laying ceremonies all over Cyprus.
In Nicosia the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, the Speaker of the Parliament Anita Demetriou, the Ambassador of Greece Ioannis Papameletiou and other officials will attend the doxology at the Apostle Varnavas Cathedral. Commissioner Costas Chambiaouris will deliver a speech.
