Seven new European university alliances join in the Erasmus+ European Universities initiative which provides support to alliances of higher education institutions in the EU. The number of alliances increased to 50 involving more than 430 higher education institutions in 35 countries, among which the University of Nicosia and Cyprus University of Technology.
The program includes all EU Member States and Iceland, Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey.
The European Commission announced the results of the 2023 Erasmus+ call for the European Universities initiative, with a record overall budget of pound 402.2 million from the Erasmus+ program for this call, while each alliance receives a budget of up to pound 14.4 million for four years.
The Cypriot tertiary education institutions participating in the European alliances so far are University of Nicosia, taking part in the NEOLAiA network along with institutions from Sweden, Czechia, Latvia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Romania and France, as well as TEPAK which participates in the EUt+ alliance along with universities from Germany, Latvia, Bulgaria, Ireland, Spain, Romania and France.
The program is bringing together a new generation of Europeans who are able to study and work in different European countries, different languages, and across sectors and academic disciplines.
In the fall of 2023, the Commission will launch the next Erasmus+ call for proposals, with the aim of reaching the goal of the European strategy for universities to expand to 60 European Universities alliances with more than 500 universities by mid-2024.
