Cypriot trap shooting athletes secure 7 medals at Cyprus Grand Prix 2023

Cypriot athletes in trap shooting clinched 7 medals at the international competition Cyprus Grand Prix 2023 which was completed on Friday, at the Olympic shooting range “Lakis Psimolofitis” in Latsia, Nicosia.

According to the organisers, the total number of medals included one gold in the junior trap category, four silvers, one each in the men, women, junior women and veterans, and two bronze, one each in the men and women.

George Gregoriou stood out among the participants, winning the gold medal in the junior trap with 114/125 (the silver was at 108/125 and the bronze at 107/125), the relevant press release says.

In addition, the second junior participant George Anastasiou finished fourth with 105/125, while Chara Meli also performed very well in junior women, winning the silver medal with 84/125, compared to 90/125 of Francesca Chiaou from Hong Kong, with the second Cypriot junior, Ekaterina Kamarengo, finishing fourth with 74/125.

It is also noted that five Cypriot shooters, one Serbian, one Norwegian and one from Greece competed in the men’s trap semi-final, while Borko Vasilevic of Serbia and Cypriots Yiannos Aeliotis, Adonis Mylonas and Nihat Akterci advanced to the medal match, with the gold medal going to the Serbian shooter, Aeliotis winning the silver and Akterci the bronze.

It is added that in the women’s trap event, where Finland’s Momsie Veromaa competed in the medal match along with Cypriot shooters Anita Koukkoulli, Andi Ieridi and Despina Tsangaridou, the Finnish athlete prevailed, with Koukkoulli securing the silver and Ieridi the bronze.

Cyprus secured another silver medal in the veterans’ trap event with Andreas Hadjisavvas who scored 97/125, while the gold medal was won by Talis Jurgenovsky from Latvia with 104/125 and the bronze medal by Lebanese Boutros Jialki with 95/125.
