Ambassador of Cyprus to South Sudan presented credentials


President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of a diplomatic representation of Cyprus in his country, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of South Sudan, based in Cairo, Poly Ioannou.

According to an announcement from the PIO, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of South Sudan, based in Cairo, Poly Ioannou presented her credentials to the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit during an official ceremony held on March 20, 2024, at the Presidential Palace, in the capital Juba. It is noted that this is the first time that an Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus has been accredited to South Sudan since its independence in 2011.

Ioannou, the announcement said, conveyed to the President of South Sudan ‘the warm greetings’ of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, together with his wishes for peace and prosperity of the people of South Sudan. At the same time, it adds, the Ambassador expressed he
r commitment to work to strengthen the relations between the two countries in various fields, as well as their cooperation both on a bilateral level and within the framework of the European Union.

President Kiir, it said, ‘welcoming the Ambassador of Cyprus, expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of a diplomatic representation of Cyprus in South Sudan’. He congratulated the Ambassador on assuming her duties, wishing her every success in her work, and conveying his greetings to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, the announcement concludes.
