Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panayiotou travels on Monday to Brussels to participate in the Agriculture and Fisheries (AGRIFISH) Council of the European Union (EU) to take place Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture, AGRIFISH will discuss agricultural issues related to trade, the public debate on the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture in Europe launched by the European Commission, while there will be a first exchange of views on the proposed regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests, which is the main legislative initiative of the “New EU Forest Strategy for 2030”.
The Belgian Presidency has set ensuring food security and autonomy, as well as further strengthening the sustainability of food production and consumption as the main objectives.
Particular attention is expected to be given to animal health and welfare, as well as the need for resilient forests.
Panayiotou will also parti
cipate in an informal meeting of the Europe Mediterranean Ministers of Agriculture – EUMED-9 with the aim to promote policies to mitigate the effects of climate change in the Mediterranean Member States.
