Nicosia: The total number of vehicle registrations in the first seven months of 2026 has risen by 11.5%, reaching a total of 34,787 compared to 31,200 in the same timeframe in 2025. The Statistical Service's report on 'Motor Vehicle Registrations' highlights a decrease of 3.8% in new vehicle registrations, while used vehicle registrations saw a significant increase of 24.1%.
According to Cyprus News Agency, figures released by the Statistical Service on Friday show that in July 2026, total motor vehicle registrations hit 5,420, reflecting a 3.3% increase from the 5,246 recorded in July 2025. The data indicates a slight 2.2% rise in saloon car registrations, reaching 4,244 in July 2026 compared to 4,154 in July 2025. Meanwhile, the number of bus registrations surged by 72.7%, with 19 buses registered in July 2026 compared to the same month the previous year. However, moped registrations saw a decline of 25.8%.
The report also details a shift in the type of vehicles being registered, with a noted decline in the share of petrol-powered saloon cars and a rise in hybrid models. From January to July, passenger saloon car registrations totaled 26,841, marking an 11.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of these, 8,614 were new, and 18,227 were second-hand vehicles. The share of petrol-powered saloon cars fell to 35.5% from 43.3% in the previous year, while hybrid vehicle registrations increased from 43.3% to 51.9%.
Bus registrations also experienced a notable rise, reaching 130 in the January-July 2026 period, up from 89 in the same period of 2025. Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles increased by 12.9%, with light goods vehicles rising by 12.1%, road tractors by 15.2%, heavy goods vehicles by 16.1%, and hire vehicles by 16.6%. Additionally, registrations of mopeds 50cc rose by 12.9% to 3,167 compared to 2,806 in the same period of 2025.
