US-Cyprus Partnership Strengthened Through Strategic Collaboration, President Christodoulides Asserts

Nicosia: The future of US-Cyprus partnership is as promising as ever, President Nikos Christodoulides stated during his address at a reception marking the 250th anniversary of the United States' Independence in Nicosia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides emphasized the enduring impact of the US Declaration of Independence, highlighting its global influence on democratic movements and its particular significance for Cypriots. He pointed out that the anniversary provides a moment to reflect on the strategic partnership between Cyprus and the United States, which has evolved significantly over recent years, characterized by shared interests and a common vision for regional peace and prosperity.

The President underscored the transformation of the US-Cyprus relationship into a broad strategic partnership supported by shared values and interests. He highlighted milestones such as the Cyprus-U.S. Strategic Dialogue and the Five-Year Defence Cooperation Roadmap, which have deepened bilateral ties. The partnership extends to various fields including defense, security, energy, and education, reinforcing the momentum and substance of their relations.

Christodoulides noted that US investments in Cyprus are growing, with American companies showing confidence in the region's opportunities. He highlighted initiatives with companies like NVIDIA and Plug and Play, which are expected to further position Cyprus as a hub for technological innovation. The President acknowledged the bipartisan support from the US for Cyprus-U.S. relations and mentioned the advancement of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act as an example of this support.

The President also stressed the importance of human connections in strengthening partnerships and reiterated Cyprus' commitment to joining the U.S. Visa Waiver Program to facilitate travel and exchanges. He acknowledged the United States' support for Cyprus during crises and the shared values that underpin their partnership.

U.S. Embassy Charg© d'Affaires, Daniel E. Mangis, echoed the President's sentiments, celebrating the shared journey of democracy and resilience. He emphasized the historical significance of the US Declaration of Independence and the ongoing commitment to democratic principles. Mangis highlighted the deepening cooperation in various sectors, including defense and commerce, and reaffirmed the United States' commitment to security in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Mangis also addressed the Cyprus Issue, reiterating the US position in support of a comprehensive settlement to reunify the island. He emphasized the importance of avoiding unilateral actions that could increase tensions and hinder settlement talks. The Charg© d'Affaires concluded by affirming the United States' continued support for a reunified Cyprus living in peace and prosperity.
