Nicosia: The 9th Pancyprian Educational and Athletic Robotics Competition, Robotex Cyprus 2026, is poised to become the largest event of its kind since the COVID period. Scheduled for this weekend, the competition will host hundreds of teams, participants, and coaches from across Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Dr. Panikos Masouras, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) and President of the Robotex Cyprus Organizing Committee, confirmed that registrations have surpassed 700 this year. He highlighted the "impressive growth" of the educational and sports robotics sector in Cyprus over recent years, evolving from a limited activity to a dynamic field of extracurricular education.
Masouras emphasized Cyprus's significant presence in educational robotics on the international stage, with teams consistently participating and excelling in global events. "This is the largest robotics event in Cyprus, offering opportunities for all ages to engage in various challenges," he stated.
The event, open and free to the public, will feature a diverse program including educational and sports robotics events, technology demonstrations, and activities aimed at familiarizing attendees with modern technologies and future professions. This year's edition promises to be the largest post-COVID, with participation from numerous teams and a record number of registrations.
Robotex Cyprus uniquely blends educational and sports robotics, focusing on programming, engineering, and critical skills like strategy, teamwork, and problem-solving. Winning teams will represent Cyprus in international competitions, including the first-ever Robotex International outside Estonia, set to take place in Seoul, South Korea.
Dr. Masouras reiterated the sector's impressive development, noting the increasing number of educational centers and schools incorporating robotics and STEM activities. He emphasized the importance of developing skills linked to future employment, such as programming, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Despite its small size, Cyprus maintains a noteworthy presence in educational robotics, with teams achieving international recognition and awards. Masouras pointed out the impressive performance of the Cypriot delegation at the 2025 Robotex International, where they competed successfully against larger, more technologically advanced countries.
He acknowledged the need for continued progress, citing the expansion of competition categories, increased student participation, and the development of accessible robotics forms. Masouras concluded by calling for closer cooperation among schools, universities, businesses, and the government to further enhance the sector.
Robotex Cyprus 2026 will be held on June 27 and 28 at the University of Cyprus Sports Center.
