The EU’s strategic autonomy in the spotlight of an event hosted by the EP Office in Nicosia

The need for the European Union’s strategic autonomy, the strengthening of its defence dimension and the creation of a European defence and security culture, were highlighted during an event titled “The Future of European Defence and Security” hosted by the office of the European Parliament in Cyprus, Cyprus Defence Ministry, the European Defence and Security College and the Association of European Citizens.

The event was held on Friday in the wider context of the Conference of the future of Europe.

Addressing the event, Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides said that “a common defence union would decisively contribute in the further political unification and the integration of a great European family,” adding that “the creation of a common defence and security culture in the EU is an indispensable element on the next steps.
