Temperature Remains High on Saturday Night, “Red Alert” for Fire Risks on Sunday

Nicosia: A yellow warning for extreme maximum temperatures during Saturday evening and the early morning hours of Sunday has been issued by the Meteorology Department. Meanwhile, the Forest Department warns of a “red alert” on Sunday due to the high risk of forest fires.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the warning from the Meteorology Department will be in effect from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 9 a.m. on Sunday. During this period, the minimum temperature is expected to drop to 26 degrees Celsius in inland and coastal areas and around 24 degrees in the higher mountainous regions. A post by the Department on X stated that “as expected, the warm air mass affecting our region again keeps minimum temperatures at high levels.”

Meanwhile, the Forest Department reported that on Sunday, the risk of forest fire outbreaks and spread will be at ‘red alert’ level. Noting that causing a fire constitutes a criminal offense punishable by severe penalties, the Forest Department makes a strong appeal to the public to be especially careful during their outings, fully avoiding actions and activities that could potentially cause a fire.

Finally, it is noted that if anyone notices smoke or fire, they are urged to immediately call 1407 (Forest Department) or 112 (Fire Service).
