Strong Winds and Rough Seas Forecasted for Cyprus Coastal Areas

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, indicating that strong to near gale force winds are expected to affect the region. The forecast period extends from 1200 on May 3, 2026, until 1200 on May 4, 2026, covering an area 8 kilometers seawards.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the current atmospheric pressure is measured at 1006 hPa, with a low-pressure system and a relatively cold air mass influencing the area. The weather conditions are anticipated to be predominantly cloudy, with periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Visibility is generally good but may become moderate to poor during showers.

The sea surface temperature is recorded at 20°C. A warning, identified as WARNING NR: 38, is in effect from 1200 to 1800 local time on May 3, 2026. During this period, coastal areas will experience strong southwesterly to westerly winds reaching force 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with some areas experiencing winds up to force 7. Consequently, the state of the sea is expected to be rough, and in some locations, conditions may escalate to very rough seas.
