Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected to Affect Coastal Areas in Cyprus

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating that low pressure conditions are anticipated to affect the sea area of Cyprus, with specific warnings for strong winds and rough seas. This forecast covers the period from 0600 hours on December 28, 2025, until 0600 hours on December 29, 2025, extending 8 kilometers seawards. According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was recorded at 1008 hPa. The forecast predicts increased cloud coverage throughout the day, transitioning to mainly cloudy conditions by late afternoon. During the night, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, primarily affecting the western, northern, and southern coastal regions. A warning, identified as WARNING NR: 15, is in place from 2100 hours on December 28 until 0600 hours on December 29. The warning highlights the anticipation of strong to near gale force winds, ranging from 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, expected to affect the western, nor thern, and southern coastal areas. Consequently, the sea state is predicted to be rough over the western parts and moderate to rough over the northern and southern regions. Visibility across the affected areas is generally expected to be good, though it may reduce to moderate or poor during showers. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 20°C. The morning wind patterns are expected to vary across different coasts, gradually intensifying by night. The west coast will experience rough sea conditions, while the south and east coasts will see conditions ranging from smooth to moderate, gradually becoming more severe as the night progresses. The north coast will also encounter moderate to rough sea states due to the wind patterns.
