Spring weather favours kite flying as Cypriots celebrate Green Monday

Cypriots celebrate “Koulouma”, the beginning of the Lenten period before Easter with excursions and kite flying. With relevantly high temperatures, the weather is ideal for this year’s Green Monday.

According to the Weather Service, today the temperature will rise to 25 degrees inland, 23 on the south-east and east coasts and 22 on the rest of the coasts, allowing outdoor picnics. In the mountains, the temperature will fluctuate around 15 degrees, while, for those excursionists who choose Troodos, the height of the snow in the Square was 22 centimeters on Monday morning.

For kite flying, the Meteorological Service predicts light and temporarily moderate winds, 3 to 4 Beaufort.

On the occasion of the Green Monday excursion, the Forestry Department reminds that it is strictly forbidden to light a fire for the preparation of food anywhere outside the specially designed grills in the excursion areas.

It also asks the public to show the necessary respect for the environment and keep the premises clean by picking up litter. It also urges to avoid cutting or uprooting wildflowers, since several of them are strictly protected, while some may be endemic and in danger of extinction.

In its morning briefing, the Police Communication Department did not report any problems on the road network, however, in a statement, it warns that increased traffic is expected due to the long weekend.
