Somali officials receive training at Joint Rescue Coordination Center

Somali officials have received a ten-day training at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Larnaca (JRCC) in the framework of the European mission EUCAP Somalia.

JRCC says in a press release, that the training program, which lasted from May 29 to June 9, included training on issues related to the operation of the Search and Rescue System and the coordination of search and rescue operations, both in theory and in practice, with the use of the new educational simulation systems.

The training was attended by seven officials of the Commercial Shipping Department of Somalia, accompanied by the Coordinator of the EUCAP SOMALIA mission.

The European EUCAP SOMALIA mission operates within the framework of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, focusing on the development of Somalia’s maritime security and coastal surveillance capabilities for the benefit of international merchant shipping.

The Republic of Cyprus, as an active member state of the EU, is present in this kind of actions and initiatives, the press release concludes.
