Copenhagen: Europe can only remain at the forefront of global health through solidarity, innovation, and collective action, said Cyprus Health Minister Michalis Damianos, who is attending an Informal Meeting of EU Health Ministers in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting focuses on advancements in life sciences and clinical trials, as well as strengthening preparedness and security in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in statements on his arrival at the meeting venue, Damianos stressed the importance of these issues in promoting citizens’ health and safeguarding healthcare systems. He reiterated that solidarity, innovation, and collective action are essential for Europe to maintain its leadership in global health, a Ministry of Health press release issued here today says.
The meeting also addresses transparency, coordination, and effective responses to health crises, aiming to ensure seamless access to critical medicines and healthcare services for European citizens. Discussions will include specialized presentations and thematic debates to enhance cooperation among member states.
Over a working lunch, particular emphasis will be placed on the pressing issue of antimicrobial resistance and strengthening actions to tackle it, the press release adds.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Cypriot Minister is holding bilateral talks with counterparts from Belgium and Switzerland, as well as with the Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), to exchange views on critical public health issues and plan for Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency in 2026.
On Monday, Damianos attended a conference organised by the Danish EU Council Presidency on the theme of life sciences, titled ‘How to Create More Resilient Healthcare Systems in Europe.’
