Seasonal Low Pressure Influences Cyprus Sea Weather

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has released its forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating the effects of a seasonal low-pressure system. The forecast, which spans from 1200 on July 8, 2026, to 1200 on July 9, 2026, covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure recorded at the time of the forecast's issue was 1007 hPa. The weather is expected to be mainly fine, though there will be instances of increased low cloud coverage, particularly overnight and during the early morning hours. Additionally, there is a likelihood of local mist at dawn, mainly affecting the southern and eastern coasts, which could result in moderate to poor visibility conditions.

The sea surface temperature is reported to be 27°C, and no warnings have been issued for this period. The wind conditions vary across different coastal regions, measured on the Beaufort scale.

On the west coast, the afternoon will experience southwest to west winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with localized areas reaching 4. The sea state is expected to be slight. The night will see a shift to southwest to northwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally transitioning to northwest to northeast at 3 Beaufort, maintaining a slight sea state. By morning, winds are predicted to be south to southwest at 3, gradually increasing to 3 to 4 Beaufort, with the sea state remaining slight.

The south coast will have afternoon winds from the southwest to west at 4 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 5, with the sea remaining slight. At night, the winds will reduce to 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally from southwest to northwest at 3 Beaufort, maintaining the slight sea condition. The morning will continue with south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort and a slight sea state.

On the east coast, the afternoon will bring south to southwest winds at 4, occasionally increasing to 4 to 5 Beaufort, resulting in smooth to slight sea conditions. The night will see a decrease to southwest to northwest winds at 3 Beaufort, with the sea condition ranging from smooth to slight. Morning conditions will have south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, maintaining smooth to slight sea conditions.

For the north coast, afternoon winds will be southwest to west at 4, locally increasing to 4 to 5 Beaufort, with slight seas. Night conditions will feature south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with localized conditions near the coast showing southeast to southwest winds at 3 Beaufort, resulting in slight to smooth seas. The morning will continue with south to southwest winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort and a slight sea state.
