Nicosia: Cyprus will host a meeting next week of the administrative arm responsible for implementing the Gaza Plan under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, government sources confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Wednesday, following reports in the Israeli media regarding a gathering of representatives from bodies linked to the Board of Peace.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the administrative implementation mechanism of the Gaza Plan, established on the basis of Resolution 2803, will convene in Cyprus next week as part of ongoing efforts related to the post-war governance and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
The same sources said that, on the sidelines of their visit to Cyprus, participants have requested meetings with the Cypriot Government. These contacts are expected to take place at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Government sources described the choice of Cyprus as the venue for the meeting as 'significant,' noting that the gathering concerns the implementation of the Gaza Plan and reflects the island's role as a regional hub for humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
At the same time, they stressed that the Republic of Cyprus has no involvement in the organisation or planning of the meeting itself.
The confirmation follows a report by the Times of Israel, which said that representatives from the various bodies of the Board of Peace will gather at a resort in Cyprus next week as the US-led international framework overseeing Gaza's post-war administration seeks to reassess its strategy after a challenging first six months of operation.
According to the report, participants will include representatives of the Board of Peace umbrella body, a committee of Palestinian technocrats tasked with replacing Hamas in governing Gaza, and the Office of the High Representative, which coordinates between the two entities.
The Board of Peace was established earlier this year with international backing to oversee Gaza's governance and reconstruction following the war. However, progress has reportedly slowed amid shifting international attention and continued disagreements over key security and political issues, including negotiations on the disarmament of Hamas.
