Presidential Commissioner and Ambassador of Serbia discuss Cyprus-Serbia cooperation on missing persons

Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou met Tuesday with the Ambassador of Serbia to Cyprus, Marko ?arko ?lagojevic, to discuss the cooperation of the two countries on diaspora matters as well as further ways of cooperation of the Cyprus-Serbia diaspora.

According to a Presidency’s announcement, in the context of a Memorandum of Cooperation on Diaspora issues and a decision taken during the visit of the Serbian Deputy Foreign Minister to Cyprus in February 2022, a series of meetings were planned in August and September for the exchange of know-how and experiences on Diaspora issues.

During the meeting Presidential Commissioner also briefed ?lagojevic on the problems concerning the efforts to ascertain the fate of all missing persons, saying it’s unacceptable that the families almost half a century later, still expect answers about the fate of their loved ones.

?lagojevic expressed his support, since his country is facing a similar problem, which is causing pain and misery to the struggling families.

Photiou is expected to visit Serbia next October, where he will have contacts on both the Missing Persons and Diaspora issues.
